Dan and I were going to begin moving into a new apartment on the 15th, but our breakup means that I will be living in the apartment solo (if you don’t count Lucy and Prandtl).  I’m really excited about decorating it however I want, and I have a lot of decorating ideas!  It is a relatively small apartment, but I think it will do.  Prandtl might get a little frustrated about the lack of running space, but (as I will show you) we have a pretty big “backyard” to work with.

Anyway, some of my friends were wondering what the new place looks like, and I thought Gee… what better place to share my apartment than on my blog? So I took Prandtl with me to check the place out and take a few photos:

The kitchen… I LOVE IT:

However…. the washer and dryer is in a closet next to the fridge. Weird placement. I don’t know how I feel about it:

There is a HUGE bathroom with tons of extra space. This photo does it no justice!

Not really a great picture of the bedroom, but it was the only one I took for some reason.

Prandtl’s favorite thing to do!  She can’t creep out of the windows at our current apartment.  The windows at my current place are too high and they face a brick wall.

I asked Prandtl how she felt about the place… and she approves :)

This is in the lobby! WHAT UP FREE COFFEE?!!!?!

The view out of my windows!! It is WAY better than a brick wall!

This is basically my backyard :) I am gonna love living right next to the river!!

I can’t wait to get settled here!  I basically will have two apartments until the end of the month.. so I have about two weeks to move everything from my current apartment to my new one.  I plan on painting for a few days.. and then I’ll start moving things over and getting situated.

Did I mention that I am SO EXCITED?!?!!!

On December 31st, I declared my New Years Resolution:  Make monthly resolutions.

This month has been an off month for me. I’m not sure why, but I have just missed the boat on the entire month of March.

Here are my resolutions as well as how I did in achieving them.

  • Work out twice a week (despite failing miserably since starting this thing): Remember last month when I didn’t work out a single day? IT HAPPENED AGAIN!! I did play tennis one day though, so maybe that should count?
  • Find out WHO IS STEALING MY EFFING NEWSPAPER. And I will. Mark my words.: The Newspaper stealer stopped stealing, so I never got the chance to do this. Maybe they read this and got scared. This resolution does not count.
  • Attend two volunteering events: I did it!! I attended “Kids in the Kitchen” where we taught kids about being healthy, and I also attended a meet and greet for the Junior League of Saint Paul. Wo0t!
  • Read 1 book: I read a couple pages??  FAIL
  • 100% complete all of my calligraphy homework: Mission accomplished! I am sad the class is over, though :(
  • Fully clean out my car.  Vacuum and everything: Done! And it stayed clean for about a week.. but then I took my dog to the dog park.. so it’s dirty again. UGH I never win.
  • Finish decorating the apartment: NOPE. I did the entryway though!
  • Get my total credit card balance below $1000. The finish line is in sight!!!!!: You are looking (or reading about) a woman with no credit card debt. OH YEAH!! But.. don’t mention the student loans I’ve got hovering over my head ;)

Honestly, I did better than I thought.   4/7… and I didn’t accomplish the ones I had an inkling I wouldn’t, so no real surprises. I’m pretty pleased with my debt situation as of the moment though!

I’ve been terrible with writing and updating my blog as well as looking at everybody elses. I’ll have to make a marked improvement in April. Maybe I’ll make it one of my resolutions!

I just bought some adorable magnets, and I wanted to share them with the world.  I’m actually supposed to be spring cleaning this weekend (as in… clearing stuff out instead of bringing things in), but I couldn’t pass them up!

I also have an old end table in my possession that I plan on painting as soon as it gets warm enough for me to keep the windows open for ventilation.  I might even get the chance to do it tomorrow!

I’m working on being a little more creative, and those magnets definitely provide me with some inspiration.

Mar 012010

Is it March already? This month I will be attempting to:

  • Work out twice a week (despite failing miserably since starting this thing)
  • Find out WHO IS STEALING MY EFFING NEWSPAPER. And I will. Mark my words.
  • Attend two volunteering events
  • Read 1 book (despite failing at this one, too)
  • 100% complete all of my calligrpahy homework.
  • Fully clean out my car.  Vacuum and everything.
  • Finish decorating the apartment
  • Get my total credit card balance below $1000. The finish line is in sight!!!!!

As a side note, these monthly resolutions are working significantly better than the standard yearly ones.  I feel like I am getting so much more done… and I am feeling so much more motivated to do it :)

I just want to say that the bed that I bought yesterday was fabulous to sleep in.

Fabulous.

I slept until 10:30am to find that the dog  (Prandtl) was at the end of the bed sleeping by my feet.  I didn’t even know she was up there until she got up and jumped off because I kicked her or something.  She’s not supposed to be on the bed and I probably should have told her “no”, but I was too excited.  With the old bed, she wouldn’t have been able to do it because that *SQUEAK* noise wakes me up.

Maybe her wild night of sleeping-on-the-bed shenanigans was too much for her to handle, because she passed out today with her toys all around her.  What a weirdo.

I woke up yesterday morning to a phone call from Delta.  I got a job!  I GOT A JOB!

It’s not quite my dream job.  My dream job escaped me about a month ago when I applied for the wrong “energy engineer” position (there were two that looked at first glance to be identical – it still kills me to think about).  However, the pay is still pretty good and the flight benefits are certainly something that I look forward to.  A few hours ago I sent my “Yes, I accept this offer” e-mail, and I will be starting on November 2nd.

So what did I do today?  SHOPPED of course!

I had to get it out of my system.  I have been so frugal and so particular this last year, I almost feel like I owe it to myself.  My jeans have holes in them, I haven’t updated my wardrobe in years, several pairs of my shoes have been eaten by my dog and have not been replaced.  And while I appreciate all of the donations that my family and Dan’s family have provided concerning the furnishings for our apartment, I have hardly contributed anything new.  No, I take it back.  I bought Dan a papasan chair for our 1 year anniversary.  Neat, huh?

And so today we went to Ikea and I bought a new bed.  The old bed we used was the one I grew up in. It had drawings all over the headboard, and it squeaked terribly.  I love the new bed and I can’t wait to sleep in it!

I also bought a duvet cover.  I hadn’t planned on buying sheets, but I have been looking for a duvet cover for years.  I never bought one because they are so expensive, but Ikea has them for under $50.  I couldn’t stay away.  Mine was $30.

I will buy a few more things, but for the most part my home furnishing shopping is finished.  I can’t say the same about my clothes shopping, though.  I do need some new jeans and at least one good winter coat and pair snow boots. Especially since I live in Minnesota and all.

After I am done with my shopping spree, it will be back to being responsible.  I have a lot of loans to pay back, and that will always be in the back of my mind.  But, for now, I’m going to celebrate and get myself a few nice things.
